Why Give?
Your gift on Deacs Day of Giving will support the University’s mission to create opportunity, educate the whole person, and inspire excellence. Make a gift to the Dolly McPherson Fund for African American Studies to enable talented undergraduates to explore creative ideas, discover their passions, and engage in mentored research. This fund was established in memory of Wake Forest Professor Emerita of English, Dolly A. McPherson, Ph.D., who became the first full-time African-American female faculty member at Wake Forest, where she taught for 27 years. Your gift will be used to create curriculum, partner with academic programs for joint course delivery and support students and their work with the program throughout the campus and the community.
The value of creating and promoting an engaged and diverse academic community is at the core of our new African American Studies program. By making your gift to the Dolly McPherson Fund for African American Studies, you will support our newest academic program. African American Studies truly exemplifies our distinctive commitment “to the pursuit of excellence in the liberal arts” while educating a new generation of students committed to serving humanity. African American Studies is Pro Humanitate.
